The Ancient Body Cleaning Technique Jala Neti And Sutra Neti -Masterofitness

The meaning of Neti is to purify, the nose and the throat through the nostrils water. By doing the Neri kriya, i:hese parts ae thoroughly cleansed.

There are various ways of doing it : —

  • Fill your hand with water and draw it in through your nostrils and then let it come out the same.
  • Take in water through one nostril and bring it through the other.
  • Take in water through either nostril separately and bring it out through the mouth and also through both the nostrils together.
  •  Taking in water through both nostrils separately and together.
  • Taking in milk and ghee (purified butter) almond oil through the nostrils and doing

Sutra Neti.

First Jala Neti

Take some very slightly salted tepid water. Check and see which nostril is working normally. Suppose breathing is easier from the right nostril then close the left nostril with your left index finger.

Take some of the water in the hollow of your right palm and breathe in. When the nostril is full of water, blow it all out. Repeat it with the left nostril.

On the first day it is enough to do the kriya once with each nostril. Slowly you can increase it up to five times and then to ten. It helps clean out the nostrils thoroughly.

Second Jala Neti

Have ready a vessel with a spout (a particular type of tumbler). Fill it with slightly warm water adding salt to it and shake it. Check your nostrils.

If the right nostril is breathing easier, raise it by bending the neck.Bend the head a little in the left direction. Open your mouth and breathe only through the mouth.

Let the water go through the right nostril by raising the spout of the pot filled with warm salty water. The water would automatically come out through the left nostril. Repeat it with the other nostril.

After repeating it with each nostril, lower the neck a little and do Bhastrik Pranayam by turning the neck towards right, left, up and down. Takeout all the water you’ve taken in. This process cleans up the entire nose.

Third Jala Neti

Fill a steel or glass tumbler with slightly salted tapid water. Check your nostrils. If the right nostril is working easier, close the left one with your left index finger.

Dip the nose in the tumbler and suck in the water with the right nostril. The water will go up to the throat. Do not swallow it. Allow it to come out through the mouth.

Repeat with the other nostril. Then do it with both nostrils together. Lastly do Bhastrik Pranayam so that all the water comes out.

This Jala neti brings out the phlegm and prevents coughs and colds. It cures common cold very fast.

Fourth Jala Neti

The only difference between the third Jala Neti and the fourth Jala Neti is this that in the third Jala Neti water is expelled through the mouth whereas in the fourth Jala Neti, after taking the water in through the nose, it is drunk. Instructions and actions are similar to the third Jala Neti.

Fifth Neti

In the fifth neti, instead of water, ghee, milk, oil or almond oil are taken in as described under the fourth Jala Neti. All instructions and actions are similar to that of third Jala Neti.

Drinking Ghree through nose is called Ghrita Neti

Drinking Milk through nose is called Dugdh Neti.

Drinking Taila/oil through nose is called Taila Neti.

Sutra Neti

Take a piece of thread made out of cotton. There should he no knots in it. Make one end smooth by applying wax it. A ready-made thread for this purpose is available in any Yogic centre.

Take a catheter (No.4) from any medical store. Clean it by washing it in water. One ends should be narrow, the other thick. Place the narrow end of the catheter in the rightnostril.

Push it in slowly till it reaches the throat. Put the index and middle fingers inside your throat and bring out the catheter through your mouth.

Now alternately pull the two ends gently so that the catheter rubs against the inside of the nose. Do so about twenty times. Now pull out the catheter tube through the mouth. Repeat with the other nostril.

Now take two catheters. Insert one in each nostril. Draw them out of the mouth and pull them in and out about twenty times and at last take them out through the mouth.

Note:

When the catheter reaches the throat through the nose, phlegm gets stuck to it and is liable to slip. Hold it fast so that it does not slip. While rubbing, rub up and down also.

Sutra Neti should be done after Jala Neti,

Milk Neti, Ghee Neti, Taila Neti should be done after Sutra Neti. Sutra Neti can be done as is done with the help of a catheter.

To do Sutra Neti, with the help of a cotton thread is more beneficial than to do it with a catheter. The thread of the cotton draws out more Kapha (Phelgm).

Benefits :

Sutra Neti cures almost all the diseases of the nose Eye-sight also improves.

Polysps of the noses is also reduced.
